Beat this for irony

I used to think that the concept of garbage bags was ironic (you know, buying something that has no other reason to exist than to be thrown out). But I got a present last Christmas that is in tight competition with the garbage bag for the "most ironic" title.

This item is garbage-related, though. It is a tool to open these plastic packages that everything seems to come in these days. Granted, today's plastic packaging is not the easiest stuff to get through. Perhaps a more rational route for consumers to take (instead of purchasing a tool to facilitate opening over-packaged products) would be to lobby the manufacturers to modify their packaging, or, dare we dream, to reduce it.

Anyway, the irony is that in order to open the package that the package-opening facilitator comes in you have to use scissors. How does this stuff ever get sold? Do people put their brains on hold?
